Non-profits are Rebounding in Our Growing Economy

December 6, 2015, NY, NY –  HAF and its affiliates –The Latino Pride Center (LPC) and Queens Pride House (QPH) – announce several full time positions.  These positions respond to the growing needs presented by the LGBT community for culturally and linguistically competent health and human services.  LPC and QPH are seeking fresh talent and highly motivated career-oriented professionals who possess the competencies and commitment to actively participate in the conceptualization, design, and implementation of new programs and the expansion services that support our vision of a “healthier” LGBT community.

Located in East Harlem, NYC, the Latino Pride Center was established in June 2013 as the first organization in the USA fully devoted to providing comprehensive health and human services to the Latino gay community in New York City.  However, regardless of our name, LPC and QPH are inclusive and welcome everyone who seeks their services with open arms—nearly 35% of the participants identify as other than Latino. They are white, Europeans, African Americans, Africans, Caribbeans, and Asians; as well as non-LGBT.

As of July 2015, HAF (LPC’s parent company) entered into a strategic partnership with Queens Pride House to “merge’ their resources with a goal of expanding their reach and the offer of health and human services to LGBT populations in Queens, New York.

“Our hard work is beginning to yield good results and we are poised to replicate and expand services offered by both organizations at all three locations –Bronx, Manhattan and Queens, New York”; said Heriberto Sanchez Soto, HAF’s Executive Director, who is heading the strategic alliance.

HAF – LPC and Queens Pride House have entered into a strategic alliance

PP Heriberto SS at QPH (8 4 15) (00000003)

Dear HAF – LPC friends:

We’re happy to share some exciting news with you. The Hispanic AIDS Forum – Latino Pride Center (HAF – LPC) and Queens Pride House (QPH) have entered into a strategic alliance, the aim of which is to expand resources for the LGBT community in Queens. As part of our new partnership, HAF-LPC will provide management, resources and strategic planning to QPH and will expand programs and services offered by QPH, with HAF’s executive director, Heriberto Sánchez Soto, serving as executive director of both HAF-LPC and QPH. Queens Pride House will remain a separate not-for-profit organization with the same mission of serving as the LGBT community of Queens. Pauline Park and Charles J. Ober, who were both co-founding members of the original QPH board that established the organization in 1997, will both join the board of directors that will oversee the two organizations.

As you may already know, Queens Pride House is the only LGBT community center in the Borough of Queens and provides free mental health counseling to members of the community as well as offering transgender and youth support groups as well as support groups for men and for LGBT people 50 and older. QPH also provides referrals to LGBT-supportive health care and social service providers and other professionals and has assisted clients in getting political asylum. QPH has also sponsored public policy forums on a range of issues, from LGBT rights to policing to human trafficking.

The Hispanic AIDS Forum has been the organizational leader in New York City’s Latino gay community and is the oldest Latino-run HIV/AIDS services organization in New York City. In June 2013, HAF launched the Latino Pride Center – a services division of HAF that is fully devoted to advancing a mission to inspire, empower and support gay Latinos to build and pursue their lives to their full potential. This mission is being pursued through the creation of comprehensive behavioral health and human services programs that affirm individuality, sexual identity and diversity; build family and community life; advocate for equality and justice; and support the pursuit of happiness free of oppression and violence for all people. “Our partnership with QPH represents an unprecedented opportunity for HAF-LPC to expand its services to Queens County. It also makes it possible to combine the existing resources of both organizations to expand services already offered by QPH, said Heriberto Sanchez Soto, HAF’s Executive Director.

“I am elated and humbled to have been entrusted to lead this endeavor; and am eager to get work with QPH to strengthen both organizations and their value to the LGBTQ community of Queens, NYC with programs and services that continue to legitimize, honor and affirm sexuality, diversity, LGBTQ rights and equality in our society, and allow to us to support healthier and stronger families and communities, and the individuals that make up these worthy institutions”, declared Heriberto Sanchez Soto.

Please come visit us at QPH or stay tuned to learn more as we make progress towards expanding services at QPH. Please visit us at and / or
